PC-Rot Terminator® is a two-part, solvent-free epoxy wood consolidant from Protective Coating Company. Mixed, it becomes a thin, penetrating liquid that soaks into soft, decayed wood, fills the voids left by rot and insects, and cures hard — so a rotted log end, sill or beam can be saved instead of cut out and replaced.

It is deliberately slow to cure. That long open time is what lets it travel deep into punky wood rather than skinning over on the surface.

What it is for

  • Rotted or insect-damaged log ends, sills, thresholds and window frames
  • Porch boards, steps, stringers, railings and balconies
  • Beams, columns and timber framing with soft spots
  • Docks and other exposed exterior wood
  • Sealing sound decking before finishing

How to use it

  • Mix 2 parts resin to 1 part hardener by volume.
  • Apply with a disposable brush or a paint roller.
  • For deep penetration, drill or poke holes into the damaged area first. On vertical surfaces, angle the holes downward so the epoxy stays in.
  • The wood must be dry. Moisture and glycol-based preservatives both reduce penetration.
  • Apply above 60°F and below 100°F.
  • Where wood is missing entirely, consolidate the surrounding rot with PC-Rot Terminator first, then rebuild the void with PC-Woody® Wood Epoxy Paste.

Finishing and safety

  • Fully waterproof once cured. Contains no solvents.
  • Before painting, use a stain-sealing or oil-based primer. Do not gel coat over epoxy repairs.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection and work with ventilation. Use a NIOSH-approved mask when sanding. Cured epoxy is inert.
  • For structural or load-bearing repairs, the manufacturer recommends consulting a professional engineer.

Product Description:

PC-Rot Terminator® is structural wood hardener designed to strengthen decayed or rotted wood. The mixture is a low viscosity liquid that penetrates porous surfaces filling and sealing voids with an epoxy that cures to a hard but durable component. PC-Rot Terminator® is useful for replacement of missing wood fibers or wood resin. PC-Rot Terminator® fills the voids in the wood with an elastomer that has strength greater than wood. PC-Rot Terminator® acts as a binder that glues the wood fibers together. The wood fibers become much stronger in combination with the epoxy elastomer.

Directions:

Worn and weathered wood can be rejuvenated with PC-Rot Terminator®. The surface can be made harder and less crumbly. A desk surface or hardwood floors can be made harder and wear resistant if the wood is ready to accept the epoxy consolidate. Seal the wood from the effect of wear and weather.  PC-Rot Terminator® will readily follow the grain of rotted wood. Removal of paint and varnish will increase the acceptance of the consolidant. For maximum penetration poke or drill holes into the wood or expose the grain of the wood by cutting into the wood. For vertical surfaces drill holes on an angle to hold PC-Rot Terminator®. Reapply the PC-Rot Terminator® prior to cure if needed.  The epoxy consolidant can be applied using and acid or paint brush or a paint roller until the area is fully saturated. The applicator bottle can be used to inject into drilled holes or larger openings in the wood. Do not attempt to spray outside of a paint spray booth.
